  RELUCTANT HEROES

The band’s reluctance to commit to any major level within the music industry is well documented. Initially formed to play just once a month in a Sussex pub for the hell of it, MLC created such an instant impression that local venues could no longer hold the fast increasing cult following being created - culminating within just a few years in the historic sell out concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Theirs is a unique tale of a complete disregard of a meteoric climb to recognition, the likes of which most performers would have willingly waited years to achieve. However the music industry was not for MLC - they played for the fun of it, and indeed it showed during memorable stage performances that drew continuing larger audiences.

Fronted by the charismatic Kevin McPhillips, the Fabulous Mid Life Crisis Blues Band was made up of enthusiasts simply hoping to realise a wish to play somewhat informally at a local pub - and it was never to be any more than that - a bit of fun. These were not professionals, but having long pursued careers in their own chosen walks of life they were now at a time of life when such mischief could be entertained. However, little did they realise at the time what they had unwittingly started.

In brief, the music industry at large began to take MLC and its commercial possibilities ever more seriously, a thought not shared by the band themselves who decided the whole notion was simply not for them and promptly quit the scene; however not before the band’s farewell treat to thousands of fans with their memorable 13th October 1995 sell out concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
